BATTERY
Plug in the internal backup battery.

Open the case by pressing on the 2 side tabs and lifting. Plug in the red/black cable into the white battery connector next to the battery bracket.

The backup battery is used to provide power to ensure a clean shutdown of the unit.

UNEXPECTED POWER LOSS WITHOUT THE BATTERY INSTALLED, OR WITH AN UNCHARGED OR WORN BATTERY, MAY RESULT IN DATA LOSS OR CORRUPTION.
WARNING: DANGER OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS INCORRECTLY REPLACED. Replace only with the same type. Batteries should be recycled or disposed of as per state and local guidelines.

ANTENNA
Connect the optional antenna to the T-Star if using cellular service.

POWER
Connect the power supply to the T-Star.

Allow the T-STAR to charge the battery for 120 minutes before removing power from the unit. If shutdown is required prior to this time, use the shutdown button on the System page in the Platform Management configuration

FIRST BOOT
The first T-STAR power-up may take several minutes longer than normal, as the T-STAR installs software and connects to the cellular network for the first time.

The amber heartbeat will blink quickly at first, and will follow a progression of patterns while the platform boots, as described in the documentation. If the heartbeat continues to blink quickly, please contact Intellastar support.

Configuration

HOST ID
Your T-STAR has a Host ID, which is unique across all units. It can be found underneath the MODEL on the label affixed to the T-STAR unit.

ex. 245G-M20200001-02468ACE

ETHERNET
Your T-STAR has two 10/100 ethernet connections, labeled WAN and LAN.

WAN defaults to DHCP client mode, which requires a DHCP server on the WAN network.
LAN defaults to 192.168.10.1, and provides a DHCP server. A single CAT-5 cable can be connected from a computer/laptop to the LAN port to create a tiny network for configuring the unit.

WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE LAN PORT TO A NETWORK WHICH ALREADY HAS A DHCP SERVER, UNLESS THE DHCP SERVER ON THE T-STAR HAS BEEN DISABLED.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT LAN PORTS FROM MULTIPLE T-STARS TO A SINGLE NETWORK, UNLESS EACH HAS A UNIQUE IP ADDRESS AND ALL (OR ALL BUT ONE) DHCP SERVERS HAVE BEEN DISABLED.

WIFI
Your T-STAR defaults to WiFi AP (Access Point) mode, and supports 802.11b/g with speeds up to 54 Mbps.

In Access Point mode, the WiFi is bridged to the LAN port, meaning that devices on the LAN and WiFi share a common subnet and can reach each other; and the DHCP address range is shared between WiFi and LAN.

This means that in AP mode, the T-STAR has the same IP address as on the LAN (default 192.168.10.1)

The SSID for your T-STAR is the first two parts of the Host ID, eg. 245G-M20200001

The default WEP2 password for your T-STAR is the third part of the Host ID, eg. 02468ACE

CONFIGURATION
The status, configuration and documentation pages can be accessed via the T-STAR web console.

Browse to 192.168.10.1 while connected either to WiFi or LAN. You will be redirected to a secure URL: https://192.168.10.1/ice

The device connection is secured by a self-signed certificate. This will cause browser warnings of possible danger, because the device does not have a certificate issued by a recognized certificate authority (CA); however, the connection IS still encrypted and secure.

Status and documentation can be viewed without authentication.

To configure the device, select the Configuration menu item. The default password for accessing configuration is the last part of the Host ID, eg. 02468ACE

The T-STAR will require that you accept licenses on first use. Please read the license terms carefully before proceeding.

Pressing and holding the DEFAULT CONFIG button inside the T-STAR will restore factory defaults.

UPLINK
Two important settings are the uplink ping host and the uplink priority. These are used to establish default routing for external subnets. The platform will attempt each of the interfaces in the selected priority order, routing all external traffic through the first interface that reaches the uplink host via ICMP ping.

MODEM
Another important setting is the modem ping host. By default, this is configured to work properly with Intellastar’s Connect Service, a cost-saving cellular plan having private VPNs using major wireless carriers. Customers using their own cellular plan should set the modem ping host to an IPv4 address that responds to an ICMP ping on the cellular connection, or should disable this by setting the ping time to zero (0).
WARNING: FAILURE TO SET THIS CORRECTLY MAY RESULT IN UNEXPECTED DISCONNECTIONS AND DEVICE REBOOTS.

TIPIFY
The default username is ‘su’ and the default password is the last part of the Host ID, eg. 02468ACE
