T-Star 245 - Maintenance - Upgrading from R2 to R3

Backup R2 Database

It is recommended to backup and download a copy of your database prior to preforming any upgrade

1. Go to the Folio app and then select the Snapshots Tab

2. Press the ‘Snapshot’ button on the upper left-hand side of the Snapshot tab, when prompted to create a snapshot select the ‘OK’ button to begin.  This process may take longer depending on the size of the database, progress can be seen in the upper right-hand side of the Snapshots Tab.

3. Download the archived backup by selecting the link provided in the list.

Preform Upgrade to R2

1. Select the Host from the App Header, then select the Updates tab.


2. Select the ‘Check Now’ button for automatic updates, ‘Upload Build’ if you have a full build for offline updating, ‘Upload Patches’ for any pod files.



Restoring Your R2 Database

If your database is not functional after an R2 upgrade, you can restore it.

1. Go to the Folio app and select the Snapshots tab
2. Press the ‘Upload’ button and then ‘Choose File’ or drag and drop the archived database.
3. Select the database to restore and then press the ‘Restore’ button

Note: You should reboot your device after restoring a database.



Upgrading from R2 to R3

We have created an upgrade zip file to convert an R2 system to R3. In addition to upgrading the build, it will attempt to convert your database.

Note: If you are upgrading from r2 to r3, you must ensure that your device is at the latest r2 release (2.1.15.7). It may take as much as 14 min from reboot button press for Tipify to be fully configured.

Collecting information you may have to set manually

Some properties may not migrate properly and should be collected so that you can restore them manually. These include Host Settings, Settings, Adio Connector and Modbus Serial Connector.



Host Settings
Host Settings include General, Network, and Firewall.
  1. General – The only Property you may need is the Timezone.
  2. Network – Includes Network, Wireless, and PPP.
    1. Network - Includes Uplink Mode, Uplink Ping, WAN Config, LAN Config, Gateway, DNS Nameservers and DHCP Server.

  1. Wireless - Includes Enabled, Mode, Network Name, Channel, Passphrase and Security (if Client).

  1. PPP - Includes Keep Alive, Ping Host, Ping Frequency, Ping Timeout, Reset Frequency and Provision Frequency.

  1. Settings – Includes Project, Extensions, Serial and Email.

  1. Project – Verify if Site Uri is migrated.
  2. Extensions – Verify correct extensions are enabled
  3. Serial – Record and serial ports configured like s1 for modbus serial on the RS485 port.

  1. Email – Collect email settings and verify they migrated.
  1. Adio Connector – Verify Adio Connector and points are migrated.



  1. Modbus Serial Connector – Verify that your modbus connector, Register Maps and Points are migrated with serial port config.


Other Migration Issues

Here is a summary of the most important changes for migration from 2.1 to 3.0:

  1. Setup : a new command tool is required to setup a new installation
  2. Migrate : a new command tool is used to migrate 2.1 project databases to 3.0
  3. User Database : the user database is now managed at the host level versus project level
  4. Email : email is now managed at the host level versus project level
  5. New Folio : the Folio database has been rewritten
  6. Licensing : the site tag is no longer counted against licenses, but weather points and schedules now require point tag
  7. His Rollup : history rollups now use inclusive start, exclusive end
  8. His NA : support for NA in historian
  9. His EndVal : the hisEndVal is no longer supported
  10. His Null Span : the hisRead method no longer supports partial null span (null for just start or end)
  11. onAuth : LDAP and onAuth callback are now handled with a Fantom API
  12. AuditMeta : audit configuration is now done on projMeta
  13. Axon : for the most part all 2.1 Axon code should run unmodified
  14. REST APIs : couple minor changes plus a new authentication model
  15. Conns : there are a couple of tag model changes
  16. Fantom APIs : many Fantom APIs have been moved around
  17. We have removed support for the guest user account (contact us if you were using)


Perform Upgrade from R2 to R3

In order to perform the upgrade from R2 to R3 you will need a build zip like is2upgr_3.0-RC5.zip

Note: If you are upgrading from r2 to r3, you must ensure that your device is at the last r2 release (2.1.15.7).
1. Go to Host App and select the Updates tab, then press the ‘Upload Build’ button and choose the file.

Note: It may take as long as 14 minutes from the time the reboot button has been pressed till Tipify is fully configured.

Check Migration Results

Verify Build

Login and verify that your device is now at R3.

Verify project migrated

The R2 project infer should have been migrated to a project named from the first 2 sections of the hostid. Press Tipify and login and select Host app to see projects.


Verify license migrated

Press Host - Licenses to see your license. If it is not correct and you gave internet access you can Update From Cloud, otherwise you can Install.


Verify users migrated

In the Host App, go to the Users Tab and insure the list of users is correct.

Verify Extensions Enabled

In the Settings App, under the Exts Tab, verify the correct extensions are enabled

Verify Email Migrated

In the Settings App, under the Email Tab, verify the correct email settings are applied.

Verify siteUri Migrated

In the Settings App, under the HTTP tab, verify the information is correct.

Verify Connectors

Verify that each of your connectors migrated properly. Adio, Modbus serial and Pulse connectors each require a function to be run to complete migration.

Adio

After importing r2 database or migrating device from r2 to r3, you will need to run migrateAdioConns() to migrate your adio connector to pulse connector and migrate your points.

Modbus serial

After importing r2 database or migrating device from r2 to r3, you will need to run migrateModbusConns() to add serial port baud rate to your modbus serial connectors.

Select Project and verify all

Select the project in the upper left and go through each of the apps to verify setup properly.
